Project Overview
A U.S. commercial refrigeration manufacturer needed an under-shelf lighting configuration for vertical open display cases. The existing lighting was uneven in the deep cabinets, and the customer needed a light emission angle better suited to the display layout.
iPixel supplied customized rigid LED bars, connecting terminals and power supplies as a lighting set. The samples were approved and the project entered mass production, with a reported project quantity of approximately 1,000 sets. The manufacturer's identity remains confidential.
| Customer | U.S. commercial refrigeration manufacturer |
|---|---|
| Equipment | Vertical open multideck refrigerated display cases |
| Installation | Beneath the display shelves |
| Project environment | 33°F–41°F (approximately 0.5°C–5°C) |
| Supply scope | Rigid LED bars, connecting terminals and power supplies |
| Project status | Samples approved; entered mass production |
Customer Requirements
The customer's main concern was uneven illumination across the merchandise in a relatively deep display cabinet. The existing light bars did not have the light emission angle needed for this installation.
The replacement configuration needed to fit beneath the shelves, accommodate different cable routes and support operation in the refrigerated display environment. The customer also wanted a connection arrangement that would make assembly easier.
LED Installation and Product Configuration
The LED bars were installed beneath the shelves to illuminate the merchandise below. The project used SMD2835 rigid LED bars with a 45° light emission angle and a frosted cover. The 45° specification refers to the light emitted by the bar, rather than its mounting angle.

Custom Engineering and Wiring
Light-Bar Lengths Matched to the Installation
The light bars were made in customized lengths to suit the available under-shelf installation space.
Tailored Cables and Connections
The project used customized cables with DC connectors and cable lengths ranging from 1m to 3m. The wire was specified as 20 gauge, with 2-pin connections, to match the project's wiring requirements.
Multi-Branch Wiring and Multiple Power Outputs
Customized multi-branch connections and multiple power-supply outputs were provided to make wiring more convenient. These changes were intended to simplify installation; no measured installation-time reduction is claimed.

Testing and Sample Approval
The project included testing at room temperature and a separate low-temperature sampling check. A 3% sample was selected for continuous illumination for eight hours in a low-temperature environment of 33°F–41°F (approximately 0.5°C–5°C).
The low-temperature inspection checked for condensation and fogging on the light-bar cover. Physical installation fit was also checked. Following sample evaluation, the samples were approved for production.
| Room-temperature testing | Conducted; detailed conditions are not specified in the available project records |
|---|---|
| Low-temperature sampling | 3% sample; continuous illumination for 8 hours at 33°F–41°F |
| Visual inspection focus | Condensation and cover fogging |
| Installation check | Physical fit in the equipment |
| Sample outcome | Approved for production |
The eight-hour check describes the project's sampling inspection, rather than a long-term service-life validation. IP65 is the specified light-bar protection rating; this case study does not present an independent IP65 test report.
Project Results
The customer reported more uniform illumination with the supplied lighting configuration. This is qualitative customer feedback; no numerical before-and-after illuminance or uniformity results are available.
Samples were approved and the project entered mass production. The reported project quantity was approximately 1,000 lighting sets, each including rigid LED bars, connecting terminals and a power supply.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where were the LED light bars installed?
They were installed beneath the shelves of vertical open refrigerated display cases to illuminate the merchandise below.
What does the 45° specification refer to?
It refers to the light emission angle of the rigid LED bar, rather than the mounting angle. This configuration was selected to address the customer's lighting needs in a deep cabinet.
What was customized for the project?
The light-bar lengths, cable lengths and multi-branch connections were customized. Cables ranged from 1m to 3m, with 20-gauge wire and 2-pin connections. Multiple power-supply outputs supported the wiring arrangement.
How was low-temperature operation checked?
A 3% sample was operated continuously for eight hours at 33°F–41°F, with inspection for condensation and fogging on the cover.
What was the project outcome?
The customer reported more uniform illumination. Samples were approved, and the project entered mass production, with a reported quantity of approximately 1,000 lighting sets.
